چکیده

Agricultural solid waste (corn cob) has been investigated asbiosorbent for removal of metribuzin herbicide from aqueous solution. Parameters influencing extraction efficiency such as pH of the sample, contact time of sample with biosorbent, shaking time, temperature, heating time, sorbent dose were studied. Maximum sorption of metribuzinwas found at pH 5.0. The sorption of metribuzin on corn cob was analyzed by Langmuir,Freundlich, Temkin and Dubinin-Radushkevich (D-R) isotherm models. Equilibrium data fitted well forLangmuir isotherm. Monolayer sorption capacity was found to be 4.07 mgg -1 using Langmuir isotherm. Freundlich empirical constants, KF and n were 1.23 mgg -1 and 2.05 Lg -1 respectively. Pseudofirst-order and pseudo-second-order models were used for kinetics study of sorption process. It was found that pseudo-second-order model hasthe best correlation value (r 2 = 0.9180) among the kinetic models. Valuesof thermodynamic parameters such as change of free energy ( G o ), enthalpy ( H o ) and entropy ( S o ) ofsorption process indicated the process is endothermic and proceeded spontaneously.

The Use of Corn cob Micro Powder as a Low Cost Adsorbent, for the Removal of Co2+Ion from Aqueous Solutions and from the View Point Thermodynamics

Corn cob as a low cost adsorbent was used in the present work for the removal of toxic heavy metal Co2+ from aqueous solutions. Bath experiments were used to determine the best adsorption conditions. The equilibrium adsorption level was determined as a function of solution pH, temperature (T), contact time (tc), initial adsorbate concentration, and adsorbent dosage. Effective removal of metal i...

Optimization of Preparation Conditions for Corn Cob Based Activated Carbons for the Removal of Remazol Brilliant Blue R dye Mohd

This study investigates the optimal conditions for preparation of corn cob based activated carbon (CCAC) for the removal of Remazol Brilliant Blue R (RBBR) reactive dye from aqueous solution. The CCAC was prepared by using physiochemical activation method which consisted of sodium carbonate (Na2CO3) and CO2 gasification. Central composite design (CCD) was used to determine the effects of the th...

Bentazon removal from aqueous solution by reverse osmosis; optimization of effective parameters using response surface methodology

Although bentazon is widely used as an agricultural herbicide, it is harmful to humans and poses many environmental threats. This study focused on the treatment of wastewater contaminated with bentazon pesticides using membrane technology. In this regard, low-pressure reverse osmosis (RO) was employed as it has already been used in the removal of other micro-pollutants. The effects of process v...

Kinetics studies of uranium sorption by powdered corn cob in batch and fixed bed system

Sorption of uranium (VI) from aqueous solution onto powdered corn cob has been carried out using batch and fixed-bed technique. The experimental results in batch technique were fitted well with pseudo second-order kinetics model. In the fixed bed technique, Thomas and Bohart-Adams models were evaluated by linear regression analysis for U(VI) uptake in different flow rates, bed heights and initi...
